It is an interesting concept - a dance sequel to Saturday Night Fever directed by Sylvester Stallone. It's hard to ruin his terrific dancing ability, but the dance scenes are so over produced with fog machines, slo-mo camera shots and flashing lights, that the dancing is almost lost in the process. The dancing is much worse. Check out the latest trailer for The dvd was ok but would not play towards the end kept pixalating which was annoying as i entended to give as a gift but watched to see that it was working ok and found out that it did not. Staying Alive is a inessentail, completely pointless followup that we could have done without. I'm usually not so blunt in my evaluations of movies, but this is one of the worst I've ever seen. I finally saw this movie after many years of seeing only Saturday Night Fever. Finola played the little rich bitch prima donna well and again editing made her look good in the dance sequences.

Fresh from the DC FanDome event! Staying Alives takes Saturday Night Fever's Tony Manero out of Brooklyn to Broadway. Kudos to editing. I watched Saturday Night Fever on prime yesterday and aside from the music and dance sequences didn't care for the rest of the movie. Of course he had to do his strut to the tune of Stayin' Alive by the BEE GEES. Sylvester Stallone took over the directing duties in this movie and made it a positive story instead of the gritty but realistic tone the original script had. While it was great to see Travolta in his prime and to see another movie with Rhodes in it, the dated dance style, my lack of enthusiasm for the BeeGees and the sad stage settings kind of killed for me what other people see as the movie's strongest suit.

Of course, all of this is purely subjective, but this movie just didn't hit the right notes for me. It isn't Bob Fosse, but it's "underdog makes good" in the dance world in Tony's life after Saturday Night Fever.
