Hey so titles a little vague but after completing NieR's 4 main runs I'm dying to play more games with beautiful stories and/or soundtracks. :DBayonetta 1 or 2, Metal Gear Rising, Wonderful 101, Zone of the Enders 2 HD... Gradius V specifically, Ikaruga, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor?So I'm going to take a different look at this question than most of the other people responding have and give a few examples of games that have been like Nier in that they've defied my expectations and provided something unique and great. (I can take or leave 3 too).I've watched my brother play most of Dark Souls 3 and played a little bit myself, and I have got to say that I honestly do not understand this recommendation.

Nier is a game with a very unique playstyle. The storyline is completely different, but that dark theme is definetely there.Bravely Default has some stuff that's similar, though not really.Check out The Nonary Games, I think the first two in the series got released as a bundle on Steam.

I felt Nier Automata did a lot of interesting thing with the story, especially with Route C and ending E. I enjoyed seeing the same events from different character's perspective. What is similar to NieR:Automata™? The souls games are much slower than Nier. Game is one of a kind, and so damn fun.

But stick with it and you'll find out. It's not really similar to Nier: Automata in any other way than being a japanese rpg with real time combat. If you like games and want to see the medium utilized to it's fullest you owe it to yourself to play at least the first 3 MGS games.It's really unfortunate that the newest one basically axed every aspect about the story that has made the past games interesting. First off I'd recommend the gravity Rush remastered and GR2 but just know that they are much more lighthearted than Nier.

I got endings A … I know it's a pretty bad adaptation to the game, however I kinda know some of the major plot twists, ending and other stuff. The only other games that come close to the melancholy are IMO dark souls 1 and the original Nier. Oh also if you are willing to branch out a bit gameplay wise I would also add Analogue: A Hate Story to this list.
